“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for
every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17
If I could only lose 50 pounds I
would be happy. So many times we think we need lose some of the extra pounds we
have put on through the years. Since we have gained weight, we are saddened and
we feel down about this, especially when we see old pictures of ourselves.
Sometimes we set a goal for ourselves, which we often fall short. But the goal
we should truly be focusing on is resembling the heart and life of Jesus Christ,
our Lord and Savior. You might think this is impossible. How could we ever be
like Christ? I will tell you how. You do this by spending much time in the
Word, applying what He has shown you that was in it, doing things His way and
not your own way, and spending ceaseless time in prayer. If you do these things,
it will be as if you are looking in the mirror and seeing the Son of God in
your life. Isn’t this how we really want to be? Don’t we want to be a
reflection of Jesus and His love? 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says that “All Scripture is
given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be
complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Let’s allow Him and His
Word to do a work in our lives. Let’s let Him give us sound doctrine. Let’s let
Him give us reproof. Let’s let Him correct us with His love. Let’s let Him
instruct us in righteousness and the way we should go. Don’t we want to be men
and women of God that are completely whole and sound in Him? Don’t we want to
be equipped and ready for every good work that He has called us to do? I know I
do. And God can do this by His power and the power that is in His Word. Hebrews
4:12 says “For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any
two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of
joints and morrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Grab your bible. Read it. It is living and powerful. It is sharper than any
two-edged sword. It pierces even to the division of soul and spirit, and of
joints and morrow. It is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Then we can repent and pray accordingly so God can purify our hearts and
straighten our lives out.
Father, have Your own way in us. Make us all to resemble
Your Son, Jesus Christ. May You use Your Word to purify our hearts and to
straighten our lives out. We want to be a reflection of Jesus and His love. May
we not be overly concerned with our outward appearance and what we look like in
pictures. May we be more concerned about our spiritual lives and what You see
in our hearts. Help us to be equipped and ready for every good work that You has
called us to do. And may You get the
glory when we do them. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
