James 5:7-8 Be patient

“Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.”

James 5:7-8

God tells us to be patient until the coming of the Lord. He gives us an example by telling us to watch the farmer. We are to “[s]ee how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth.” How does the farmer wait for it? He does this by “waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain,” all of which is done on God’s very own timetable. God Himself personally instructs us in His Word by telling us the simple word “You.” Yes, it says “You.” “You also be patient.” He goes on to instruct us by telling us to make sure that we establish our hearts in Him. Why? Because the “coming of the Lord is at hand.” It is a sure thing. He is coming again. God, nor His Word, lies. We are to be patient. We are to be waiting patiently. We are to establish our hearts in Him. Let’s make sure that we do this today, for there may be no tomorrow.

Father, help us to be patient. You were patient. Help us to be waiting patiently until You return. We know that You will come on Your very own timetable. Only You know when this will happen. Help us to establish our hearts and to make them secure and strong in You. We ask these things all in the name of Jesus. Amen.
