“Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in
Your holy hill? He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the
truth in his heart; he who does not backbite with his tongue, nor does evil to
his neighbor. Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend.”
Psalm 15:1-3
God wants us to walk uprightly. He
wants us to work righteousness. He wants us to speak the truth in our hearts.
He wants us to not backbite with our tongues. He doesn’t want us to do evil to
others (our neighbor). Evil can be done to others with our tongues. When we do
this the enemy has an open door to cause destruction in our lives as well as to
those that were talked about. It puts a crack in our armor (the full armor of
God that we are supposed to be wearing). God doesn’t want us to take up a
reproach against our friend. What does He want us to do? He wants us to walk in
love! Walking in love should be our highest goal as a Christian. If we love God
and love others we will keep all of God’s commandments. It will also keep us on
the straight and narrow path that leads to life. 1 Corinthians 13 can be a
reality check concerning our walk. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 says “Though I speak
with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become a
sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy,
and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so
that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I
bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned,
but have not love, it profits me nothing.” Do you love God? Do you love others?
We should as God is love and He lives and abides in us. Let Him love others
through you. Have and experience the life that He wants you to have.
Father, may we walk in love. May we keep a tight reign on
our tongues. May our words speak life and blessings. May we stop ourselves if
something unkind is about to come out of our mouths. We don’t want to give
Satan an opportunity to do any damage in our lives or the lives of those around
us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
